Plan Great Family Ski Vacations

Going on a skiing holiday can be a magical experience, giving you the chance to see spectacular snow-covered scenery and stay active. However, if you re planning to hit the slopes on a family vacation, it s worth planning your trip thoroughly to make sure you make the most of it.
Choose the right transport method
If you re travelling with children, long journeys can be uncomfortable, tiring experiences. Thankfully, however, you can get to many European ski resorts quickly and easily from the UK, so you can arrive at your destination relaxed and ready to head out onto the slopes.
You can drive from the UK to Europe, or get cheap flights to ski resorts in France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy from many UK airports. Taking the train is also a great option if you have young children – you can get to Paris or Brussels from London on the comfortable Eurostar service in about two hours, and then get a connecting service to your chosen ski resort.
Find a family-friendly ski resort
Not all ski resorts have family-friendly facilities and it’s often better to avoid the famous destinations and choose smaller, quieter resorts.
Look for resorts with gentle slopes for little ones, family-focused entertainment, a choice of restaurants and good child care facilities, so that you can go out and let your hair down for an evening without having to worry about the kids. Teenagers may like resorts with snowboarding facilities, whilst young children can get bored easily, so choose somewhere close to plenty of family attractions, so you ll have a choice of things to do. Choose your accommodation carefully too – a self-catering chalet is a great option, as you ll have more space.
Good examples of family-friendly ski resorts include Morillon in France s Grand Massif ski area, Galt r in Austria and Engelberg in Switzerland.
Keep your luggage to a minimum
If you re a keen skier, you probably have your own ski equipment. However, when you re on a family skiing holiday, you won t want to be loaded down with everyone s skis and ski clothes. Make sure that the ski resort you choose has well-equipped ski hire stores and budget for the cost of hiring equipment, so you can enjoy travelling without being overloaded with luggage.
Wherever you decide to go on your family skiing holiday, you re sure to have a fantastic time in the snow and your children will be talking about the experience for years to come.
